    vert top protection

2 year old robbins top on a 91 vert

what is the best stuff to put on to help make it more waterproof/ resistant or more water protected

by touch from the inside, the top feels like the water is wicking its way through

go to BMW they sell 2 different types on impregnator or whatever the hell its called-- just did 2 cars last week at work. one is an aerosol you spray on the dry top-- smells exactly like the scotchguard "campdry" I used to do my Army crap with, the other you mix in a bucket and sponge it on a wet top.

        ragg topp

it was suggested by tha haartz company for over 20 years...thats the stuff, its non silicone and will give you the "new top" water beading for about a year.

haartz makes all of the quality convertible top farics

Using Raggtopp Cleaner and Protectant as well.

Water beads up nicely on the top, like a freshly Zaino'd hood.

              update

for those interested used both raggtop adn 303

I did an experiment since next summer I want to really clean it and redo it

location, ...inside a non heated garage...temps in the 40's foggy so high humidity

cleaned with 303 cleaner, let sit to lift pine pitch.lt lifted most of them, used soft bristle brush

driver side got ragg top, pass side got 303 ( fabric). both applied according to instructions ( sort of)
car sat 2 days under cover, one day in the kinda sun ( overcast)
              both got two applications

these are not ideal conditions according to both bottles where it should have been hotter, and then in the sun with a breeze

driver side ( raggtop) beaded up with tiny beads, size of pin heads
pass side ( 303 fabric) beaded up bigger, like car wax

              under neath, both feel dry

both are far better then nothing, where the top just absorbed the water and inside felt constantly wet in the rain

will be interting to see how they perform/last/protect

              ++++++++++++++++

one person suggested using a bleach solution to clean the top, I am reluctant to try that on black fabric, 303 cleaner did not lift all the pitch, and did nto turn it all back to "new" black

still need to figure out safe way to remove mold on interior side

Ragg Topp here as well. Cover the rear window cause it may stain or streak /etch it.

I've tried both on my Mercedes 560SL roadster. This is a fabric top, BTW (not vinyl).

I've found 303 applies easier and lasts about the same. Some people say RaggTopp lasts longer, but that hasn't been my experience. IME, 303 is easier to work with so that's what I use. But there's no huge difference either way.

                        I've never met a motorcycle I didn't like.

I do have an issue with GSXRs/FZRs/CBRs/etc though. Whenever I ride one of them, I always feel enticed to run the living shit out of them. I guess it's the the way they make power, they feel weak at low RPM, and have such a mind-bending rush on the gas. I'm sure for some people that may be what they love about high perf in-line fours. And on a track, I couldn't argue against it. But for me, street riding, a good 2V Duc beats anything. I can have some slightly illegal fun, where as on any of the Asian missiles I either feel; (A) Bored, because they are so smooth and docile at the lower rev range or (B) Scared, cause they are so damn fast , and about 200% better than I am. or (C) Expecting to be arrested for felony stupid at any moment, because the are so damn fast, and I don't really enjoy (A)
