    Return to the non-e30 opinions

I posted a topic about an old school toyota pickup a few days back and since that idea has come and gone Im looking at another vehicle. Its for sale locally so Ill be able to get a test drive in this time. Its a 1993 Audi 90 quattro with winter package (Im assuming that means heated seats and not much else) with 175k. It seems the guy is getting pretty frustrated with the maintenance its taking but It seems that most has been done. Only thing left is that the clutch will need to be replaced in the next 20k or so as its the original unit. So far hes replaced the cat converters, heater core, all the front end bushings, all new brakes including 2 new rotors in the rear as well as one new caliper, tires, and coolant tank. The car looks nice from about ten feet but it looks as if somone took a broom to it in the winter to remove some snow and left some scratches in the paint. Not sure If a good detail will take care of it or not. I looked it up on edmunds.com and I think it valued its private party price at around 2000. This seems like it would be an ideal car for my needs for the winter. The Audi 2.8 V6 motor is pretty strong and reliable (correct me if Im wrong) and its german! What do you think I should offer the guy? Im hoping 1700 but am I dreaming?

I believe in 92/93 VW had their cars produced in Mexico, and there were more recalls than they had ever had. I had a 92 Jetta Carat, and I thank god that I totaled it (not really, but you get the idea). Soooo many repairs. Such a poor design/assembly. It may as well have been from some dinky asian startup manufacturer.

<- Audi nut. These guys, Charlie, Kris, etc etc think I'm nuts for wanting a 90 or Quattro Coupe. Maybe I am. Say they have electrical problems.....maybe they do. Check out audiworld.com and 20v.org for early 90 info, maybe you can pick up some links or something for the V6ers.

http://www.audiworld.com/forum/9080.html (edit: good to see you are already on there.......)

I'd say I love the styling. But I'd probably wish I could afford an A4 quattro though......(even though a friend's sister almost died yesterday because of her 98's unintended acceleration.....perhaps a new drama involving Audi......)

Eh, I'm doubting I can actually get one myself anytime soon, and before then can find an owner who will give me the true lowdown on electrical and maintence issues. Oh well. I'd still think one as a winter car would be fun.

Nice man good to hear Im not the only one who thinks that these cars look good. A 90 coupe would be awesome but I cant really afford one that would be worth keeping, being as rare as they are. My friend had a 96 a4 2.8 quatrro and I was amazed with how the car drove. The car had good power across the powerband and the all wheel drive worked awesome. With the a4 and the 90 having the same V6 powerplant that definately seems like a plus to me. Plus Im coming from a truck with 230k+ on the odo, this cant be nearly as bad.

If you are hoping to knock down a 2000 173k Audi to 1700.....don't. You probably won't be able to stick with maintence. Buy an Integra, or honda.

Na I can afford it, but having the extra 300 bones this semester would be nice, might also pay off in a few more lift tickets before I have to go back to school too. Plus the relatvent fees associated with buying a new car. Anyway, does this sound like a fair price to offer, or should I be expecting to pay more.
