"The 2010 Volvo C30 reliability score of 6.0 out of 10 is the Predicted Reliability rating provided by J.D. Power and Associates. This score is based on trending the past three years of historical initial quality and dependability data from J.D. Power's automotive studies, specifically the Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study (IQS).
The 2010 Volvo C30 has a four-year/50,000-mile comprehensive warranty"
My dad had a 97 Volvo wagon with a 5 cylinder turbo, and currently has a 2000 wagon with a 5 cylinder turbo. Both were very reliable. The only issues with the cars were non-engine related.
I've only seen a few in person on the road, it looks horrible from the back imho. I've only had hands on experience with a rental Volvo that was only a few months old, and it already had electronics problems. I would probably easily take a GTI over it.
please don't buy one of these.
how much do you have to spend?
if i was you, looking for a fast/cool newer volvo, i'd go for:
-2004-2008 Volvo S60/V70R AWD (300hp)
-1995-1997 Volvo 850R/ T5-R FWD
-2005-2008 Volvo S60 T5 Sport Pkg 6-spd. FWD
All the above are IMO the nicest newer volvos (since the RWD era of 200's 700'
s etc ended).
All are turbos as well. If you want a P2 car, I recommend their last yr's in production, as the late 00-03 cars generally have more issues, such as my parents' cross country's tranny blew up (like hundreds, maybe more other v70's around the world). and cost $5k to replace.
To be honest, If i was to give you my best choice right now for a volvo - would be either a 242 (2dr) Turbo Intercooled Coupe in nice condition, or a 91-93 Volvo 240 (which comes N/a, but very very easy to Turbocharge) as they had the last years' luxury ammenties and airbag.
I myself share a 1991.5 240 Wagon Pretty much eurospec, 5-speed, RWD w. lsd, and my parents' are the original owners, and bought it new in sweden bac in 91' and drove it around europe for a while. I grew up with that car, so it's been round since new. almost 300k on the clock baby!

I have the 5 cylinder turbo in my '99 V70 XC, and it's solid as a rock.
BTW, for those that don't know, the C30 is a Volvo engine and body on a euro-market Focus chassis.

yeah.
the only remotely cool part about the C30 was how when back in 02' it was a pretty cool concept car. got a chance to see the original SCC (or whatever it was called) back in 02' when the younger me went on a trip to sweden with my family to pick up our then new cross V70XC.
haha fun trip.
Volvo's been using that T5 motor since the s70. If they're confident enough to stick with a design for fifteen years with only minor modifications, it seems like a good idea.
With that being said, I hate my mom's XC90 with the T5. It has one of those crappy ford transmissions and shifts like a dog. On top of that, something in the awd system is always snapping and leaving her stranded. Althought I can't say that anything, other than the alternator has ever needed replacing. The car is at 166xxx and still has the factory turbo.
sigpic
I wear a suit, I do coke, and I ski...:D
That's why I drive a BMW
