Information about 2010 UPS Rates and Services
As one of the most challenging years comes to a close, we want to express our appreciation for your continued business. We have worked hard to make continued improvements in our service, while enhancing our shipping, tracking and billing technologies to improve your organization’s productivity and reduce your costs. After careful evaluation of customers’ needs and the rising costs that affect all businesses, UPS has set 2010 rates.
2010 Rates Effective January 4, 2010*
UPS Ground Service will increase 4.9%; Air and International Services will increase a net 4.9%. The rate increase for Air and International Services is based on a 6.9% increase in the base rate and a 2% reduction in the Air and International Services fuel surcharge. Even with this change, these rates for UPS Next Day Air® remain up to 7% lower than our largest U.S. private competitor for similar services.

Fuel Surcharge Calculation Changes
Beginning January 4, 2010, changes are being made to how our Air and International Services and Ground Service fuel surcharges are calculated. These changes will better align our fuel surcharges, and decrease volatility when fuel prices fluctuate.
UPS Service and Technology Enhancements
- In January, our premier shipping application, UPS WorldShip® will be enhanced with simplified air freight shipping, improved usability and import/export capabilities, and the ability to process UPS Mail Innovations® shipments.
- UPS StandardSM from Mexico was introduced in July, the only guaranteed ground package service from Mexico to the U.S. In January, we will offer a contractual service, UPS Standard to Mexico.
- We continued expansion of the UPS On-Call Air Pickup network to ensure you receive later pickup times for on-call air packages from more businesses than any other carrier.
- The UPS Billing Center was enhanced in October with streamlined payment processes, improved navigation, and expanded invoice history helping you analyze and manage cost as well as reconcile expenses.
New Pickup Service Options
Daily Pickup continues to be available; however, we recognize that not all customers need a Daily Pickup. For those customers who don’t, UPS is expanding the number of scheduled pickup options starting January 25, 2010. They provide you with the flexibility to choose the option your business needs at the right cost: UPS Smart PickupSM, Day-Specific Pickup and Daily On-Route Pickup. Visit ups.com/pickupoptions starting January 4, 2010 to learn more on how these flexible and environmentally friendly new pickup options can potentially save you money.
We pledge to continue delivering the best-in-class service you’ve come to rely on from the world’s leading delivery company. We look forward to serving you in 2010.
