    E36 318ti..What to do?

I have the opportunity to obtain a really clean, rust free e36 318ti with a blown engine....what would you do with the same opportunity?
It is auto so here are the choices:
I have a race e30 so take the 5 stud parts and convert the E30 and part out the rest..
Swap in a M50 and make it a DD
Replace the M44 and driv it as a DD (with the chance of another failure)
Thanks in advance for your ideas and input
Let me know what you would do with a "smallish" budget

    whats wrong with the M44?

I would do an m50 swap, and have a really nice DD.

Not too sure whats wrong with the M44 I have not got the car yet...story was "Steam and smoke every where, with a puddle of coolant underneath" and the car had to be towed off the interstate...Owner says the garage he towed it to said the engine had to be removed to determine a repair.....what ever that means....
will the factory auto transmission from the M44 work with a M50 6 banger?
Or will I need a different trans for the bigger engine...
How much will all the parts for an m50 swap cost approx?
      Thanks

M52 swap and then just enjoy it. M52 powered Ti is very nice about the same as an E30 weight. More suspension travel up front makes for a nice ride.

What is an M52 again? is it a later aluminum block 2.8?...how much can you pick one of those up for usually?

Hmm, If you gonna get this I think you should do some reading on www.318ti.org first. But an M52 is a 2.8L straight six out of a 328 or a 528.
