My car thought it was Herby

I went over to a friends today. pulled the parking break, didnt put it in gear because the road was pretty flat. About 30 min later her father comes in asking if that was my car down the road.

Im thinking "WTF someone hot wired my car and crashed it 5 houses down?!" But apparently i didnt pull the parking break hard enough. It rolled down the road, missed a parked car, and 5 houses down, on the other side of the road, a little bit bigger then an inch thick tree was slightly bent with my car showing dominance over it.

Nothin broke besides my heart knowing my car tried running away from me.

So anyone else have an experiance like this?

hahahahahahaha, my stupid volvo's parking brake is the same way.
I was parked a driveway once, at a very slight slope, and it rolled out down into a water runoff next to their lawn. LOL moment.

Yes, had my car roll down the driveway a few times before I finally started putting on the e-brake. Out of company policy/habit I would never use it. Learned my lesson after a very close call one morning.

I pop it in gear if im parked on a slope. But this road was pretty flat. I dont think my car was rolling any faster then 5mph.

thats why you always turn you steering wheel so the car rolls into the curb/sidewalk:)

i never do this because then i start the car w/o the clutch in it springs forward...

once it dragged me out into an intersection because i had my feet out of the car (it was 110 degrees outside). i was picking my car up at the tire shop and they parked it in gear (i didn't notice since i never do it) pointing toward the street. i reached in to start it and let some heat out of the car, and zoom it propelled itself down a small hill as i held on by the steering wheel with my feet dragging on the ground trying to stop it.... right into a sentra driven by an old lady as a mustang came a few feet away from hitting me (as in my body). $2000 damage to the sentra, an accident on my record, and NO damage to my diving boarded 325e.

embarrassing... but anyway that is why i don't park my car in gear unless i am on a really, really steep hill. i even tried learning to park my car in gear but i had too many close calls with other cars, walls, etc.

I have to laugh at the title because my 1.5 year old son loves The Love Bug and Herbie Goes To Monte Carlo. No interest in cartoons whatsoever but would watch those all day long if we let him.

Back on topic, I am in the habit of putting it in 1st and pulling the ebrake each and every time I park. Put remote start on my wife's Civic when we bought it new and disabled it 2 day later, wasn't worth the potential risk cause neither of us could remember to not leave it in gear.

I always park my car in gear with the e-brake on, and I was always taught to push in the clutch when starting the car no matter what. Good habit to get into

I always leave it in gear. But that also has something to do with the e-brake parts having completely rusted out.
