Did you look under the car? Is it even an ix? Maybe you bought a rwd model with the fender flairs and side skirts of an ix.

    Just sayin.

        And this is your answer.

Also, would pursuing a litigious route as a solution to this problem be more cost-effective than just paying out of pocket to fix it?

        Doubtful

Hey buddy. You say the seller was from this forum? I guess you can find a resolution with him. If he said the all wheel drive worked and lied, he owes you... What's his name/nick? If he doesn't bulge, then maybe we will be interested to know from whom not to buy or whom to ban.

Says who? Without documentation there is no claim. The whole world does not work in the way your willy-nilly Canadian mind assumes it does.

              Sayz who? Guess who?

Documentation is required if one goes the legal way. Who said you have to go there yet? There's a price to one's reputation. If things happened the way they have been told, then the seller clearly lied. From experience in my dealings, there are always ways to get some money back or a full refund.

Yes, having this information would be invaluable to all of us. If there is an untrustworthy seller on here, we all want to know.

OP the Viscous coupler in the Tcase is shot, very common in IX's and semi hard part ot source used an all but imposable from BMW (went NLA late last year IIRC)

Or the splines on the front shaft or half shafts are striped out

My money is on the VC in the case

Yes, it is truly an IX. That would have been a real kick in the dick! lol

His forum name is "Phi". I don't think that he is untrustworthy just not the most knowledgeable maybe (don't give him any shit as I don't need the drama).
He claimed he "tested" it. I didn't inquire as to how.:| Ban is not called for. It's as much my fault for not thoroughly investigating it first. I got it for a really decent price for the condition it's in so I jumped on it.

no, no, wasn't that guy. Was a local sale.

I don't know what to think or who to blame if anyone. Just very disappointing! It would cost way more than I paid for it to pursue it legally. I'm just going to eat the loss. Not much I can do about it. Again, I didn't pay all that much for it.

Splines on front drive shaft are probably striped where it goes into the t-case. The PO may have even gone as far as removing it. Get it up in the air and take a look. Its like a $200 and easy to pop in.

I've yet to investigate what the problem is. I don't have a garage to work in and wasn't into jacking it up in the snow, in the dark, after working all day.
I'll keep what you said in mind. Thanks for the heads-up on that. Hope it isn't anything too serious or expensive.

Thanks, I'll check into that. $200 normally wouldn't be bad, but with Christmas around the corner, it'll be a while before I start buying parts. :x
