as i looked further into it i realized that the read out was 10.5 L:100. i found out that that is letters per 100 kilometers.

I get about 125 letters per 100 milimeters with Safeway alphabet soup, about 120 with King Soopers. YMMV.

and on topic: My car has a hollowed out cat chamber from the PO (maaaaassive exhaust expansion/contraction, kills velocity). I get about 22mpg, and I drive hard. So no, the cat isn't having much of any effect on my mileage.
