How do you identify Widescreen PS2/Xbox games?

It took me a while to find out why some "widescreen" DVD look like crap and others dont on my Sony HD 57 16:9 after reading this it makes sense. Basically look for 1.85:1 not 2.35:1 http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0077.html

Now what about Playstation 2/Xbox games? The box backs dont say anything. With my current games some automatically fill the screen while others require me to zoom or stretch. So how do you determine if its 4:3 or 16:9 and then wether its 2.35:1 or 1.85:1 widescreen format without going home and trying it.The high school kids that work at gamestop and such places were of no help in person.[/url]

Almost all PS2 games default to a 4:3, there are a few games such as GT3, the various GTA games, and some other 'sim" games that give you an option to switch to a 16:9 display. I have never seen any sort of indication on the box as to whether or not a game supports 16:9

90% of games will not have 4.3 widescreen, or even anamorphic widescreen (16.9). Only top production value games from more well known companies may have this option. Metal Gear Solid may also have it.
