    Opinions... 85' 318i

I need to know what you guys think.

As most of you know, i recently wrecked my car, and now I just need something to drive.

I know its an m10, I know its and early model.

But does the price seem reasonable? anything I should be concerned about?

Going to be looking at it tomorrow.

    And the carfax is clean.

the price is kinda steep, i scored an '84 318i for $500. see if you can get the price down any, but i wouldn't buy that car for that price unless it is pristine.

EDIT: oh wait! its the super rare 3.0L 4 cylinder!

Ya I laughed when I say the 3.0L.

Im going to see if I can get him to come down a bit on the price since Ill be paying in cash.

looks like the seller is a small-time dealer. Prepare for the guy to try to tell you how great the car is, how well everything works, how rare and high-end the car is, how he is selling it for WAAAAY below regular retail, which he will tell you is like $3000, and then try to pressure you into buying. Don't cave in! beware the slimy car dealer! If everything mechanical works well and most electronics work, i would say $700 would be a fair price.

im not sure how savvy you are with car buying, but make sure the heat works, check the rear shock mounts (under the cloth in the trunk), check the oil and coolant levels, and run the car for a sufficient time to see that it doesn't overheat, and don't let him know you are coming so he doesn't have a chance to get the car started and running, so that you can see how it cold starts.

Oh and don't agree to a price BEFORE making sure he tells you all the fees he will charge you (dealer fee, temp tag fee, etc, it adds up).

        Did that help?

thanks man. Im usually pretty good with car dealers. I will hopefully get him to come down on the price some. Just hope it is in good shape.

$1k for it isn't too bad if there are any major problems with it. I would bring a flashlight, pull the radiator and valve cover caps and check for the color of the coolant and how clean/dirty the head is. (THIS I didn't do, and if I did I would have never bought my 318).

m10 cars are down on power, but they are fricking light and cheap to maintain/run.

If your paying $1k for an m10 it better be pretty close to perfect.

I know you guys dont like the m10's but this would be the third one ive owned. And their reliability has been outstanding. Not powerful by any means, but god damnit they wont let you down.

M10's are not bad,but I will say test drive, let car run while parked, and check frame rails under the hood for damage good luck. Oh and the rear shock towers like someone mentioned is a must to see prior to making a deal.
