Anyone know of a free program to convert MP3 to MIDI?

I've got a short MP3 that I want to turn into a MIDI so I can use it as a ringtone on my cell, but I can't find any programs to do it.

Alternatively, does anyone HAVE a program that can do this, and I can just send you the MP3, and you could convert it for me?

    Thanks in advance,

    Josh

Ok, well here's the thing. I have an Mp3 that I absolutely MUST have as a ringtone for my phone, and my phone supports other ringtone types besides MIDI files, those being IMY and AMR. Can I convert an Mp3 to one of these files, or can I convert the Mp3 to a WAV, and THEN to one of these files?

*EDIT* - I converted the Mp3 to a WAV file, I just need to find a way to get it onto my phone...

You need to write it yourself. MIDI isn't a "music" format. MIDI is basically an electronic sequence of "notes"

Dammit. Well, I did find a site that has it to download, it's only .99, but I have to load my account with at least $4.99 in order to download it.

You could get some sheet music of it, and learn the panio. Electronic keyboards rule. ;)

No, you can't do it. Whereas an mp3 is the recorded sound, midi is like the sheet music.

There are programs out there to do it, but they will do their "best guess" as to what the source sounds were, and any program for $0.99 sure as hell won't do a good job.

Chances are a ring tone site will get a cleaner .99 copy then someone could convert. It's a billion dollar a year industry, I wish I got in on it.

If you give me the mp3 I can see what I can do about transposing the notes from ear onto a midi. Let me know. I used to do a lot of fiddling around with midis and mods in my high school years from ear, trying to remake songs into a smaller format than an mp3. Now it looks like it might have an actual use :)
