It depends on what you mean cheap, you could spend anywhere between 200-300 bucks for some ass quality ebay HID kit or you could spend a hundered bucks more and get a decent kit. I would contact Umnitza on bimmerforums. I believe he sells the XTEC H1 HID Kit between 300-350 bucks shipped (it all depends on what temperature you want). I would go with the 5k, but if you want that bluish tint then get the 6k, any higher is worthless IMO.

There's always Osram/Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. $40 bucks and they have an amazing lighting.

I had the Mrjing kit in my car and now its in the M3. Its a hella ballast with well rebased bulbs but they are done in a plaster so I dont know about longevity, although they did survive my wreck. I also have a friend that has them in his truck and has for some time.

I switched to a different phillips kit because of the lower color temp available and better bulbs.
              Im now E30less.

He is, Chris got his H1 and H3 6000K's from Nick.

Also, redbull 325is, HID kits go by bulb size, so a kit really isn't "for E30's", as you put it. Any H1 kit will work with Euro ellips, and 9006 kit with US ellips. If you don't have either type of ellips please don't buy HID's.

Also, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for.

Nick is currently sourcing the new 50 Watt xenon kits to to sell in addition to the normal 35 Watt kits. The normal 35 watt kits he sells now are from the same company he's been dealing with forever, but I don't know if someone else bought them out or what, because the ballasts now have a different name on them but he says its the same kit as before, all the wiring, bulbs, etc... are still the same.

The new 50 watt systems are cool and all, but I like the 35 watt systems because they use less power, the 50 watt systems use almost as much as a normal halogen bulb. The idea behind the 50watt systems is that you'll be able to get the higher kelvin kits (like 7000K or 8000K) and still have the same output as the 35watt 4000K kit but with much more color.

Anyway, you can contact him, he's been pretty busy, but he'll probably still be able to get you kits.

I am currently running (and have been for a month) the McCullough (sp?) kit sold by zgperformance on eBay.

It's awesome, $289 shipped, install took 30 minutes and that was because i was cleaning stuff off to mount the ballasts, etc.

Don't use the tape that comes with the kit, do the install right.

I need to get those yellow foglight bulbs to go with my HID, I cant even tell my fogs are on so I should just get the yellow light to help cut through actual fog better. I wonder how well the 80watt ones would do in that housing?

no idea, perhaps they aren't aimed? they should fill in the sides and down low where the HIDs dont hit.

                              Yes.

But "the same thing" is a completely different setup than just new bulbs, it involves bulbs containing a xenon gas capsule hooked up to a ballast that fires 120kV of juice through them to get it ignited. An arc of electricity then forms in the xenon capsule inside the bulb, giving off the light, rather than in a traditional halogen setup where a W filament is heated to give off light.
