    New Member From The UK

    Hi,

New member here from Jersey in the Channel Islands, only just found this site and was impressed enough to sign up.

I love BMWs and currently own an E36 M3, a 1973 2002 Touring and a 1988 325i Sport but have had many many other BMWs. I favour older BMWs and after owning loads and loads of cars I've deceided that the E30 is the one for me. Next month I may be buying an 1991 318is that I've been drooling over for the last 9 years but I think the M3 and the 2002 will have to go.

    This is my 325i Sport:

This pic of the interior below is an old pic, now the driver's seat is in a rough condition but you can see here that it has the proper Recaro seats not the standard BMW sports seats:

Some background on the car, I bought it in about 2002/2003 and kept it for about a year or so before getting bored of all its little problems and selling it for a newish car, that was a huge mistake because I never forgot that car and really regretted selling it so I thought I'd try and buy another at the begining of last year. Living on a small island (9x5 miles) with its own laws makes importing a car from mainland UK expensive and tedious and 325i Sports are few and far between on the island.
Anyway I managed to track my old car down and buy it back, it feels very odd to be back in my old car but unfortunately it hasn't been well looked after and needs lots of bodywork. I've nearly completed the mechanical work having fitted a replacement engine within the first week of buying it back and I've recently bought some panels for the bodywork to come.

Anyway hope I haven't rambled on too long , I think I'm right in saying the Sport was a UK model only, it was a normal 325i with a close-ratio gearbox, Limited Slip Diff as standard, bilstein suspension and an M-tec bodykit but a standard 2.5 m20 engine.

    Cheers
    :p

I dig it. Welcome and glad you found your long-lost-loved e30! I'm still waiting to stumble across my '88 325is that I regret selling many a year (or 5) ago.

Very clean looking! Not sure if I see where the body damage is. Could use some love on the paint from what I see on the spoiler but still, very nice!

Keep us updated on your progress. I love seeing RHD vehicles getting a new lease on life.

Cheers, it is when you are close up that you see how bad it really is, the sunroof panel is rotten and the rear lamp panel is held together with silicone and hope. Its generally full of dinks, dents, scratches and the odd area of light corrosion.
I'm dreading removing that bodykit, they hide all kinds of sins. I love it though and I'm prepared to spend far more than it'll ever be worth restoring it because its 'my old sport' and it never fails to make me feel good.

Ha Ha cheers guys, the spec of it was another reason I wanted my old Sport back because I've never seen another with the same high spec (air-con wasn't that common on E30s) . The seats are fairly rare but I wouldn't say they were loads better than the usual sports seat design. I've been looking at getting the driver's seat re-trimmed, the only place I can get the material is from some trimmers in the USA, I had thought about going for a black leather interior but I quite like touching cloth (do you guys have this euphemism 'touching cloth'?)

The steering wheel as you may know is a Nardi Blackline which was an option when they were new. If you want one it may be worth trying ebay.de as they seem to be a little more common in Germany. I personally don't like the look of it much-I think that the centre looks and feels a bit tacky but the rim is great, really nice size with fat bits to grip better. I've just bought a brand new three spoke Alpina steering wheel from the BMW dealership which must have cost me about £250 ($400) which seems crazy when I have so much else to sort but I figured that I would buy all the parts first including anything that may become hard to get in years to come like the one-piece illuminated m-tech gear knob.

Do you have that expression over there then-touching cloth? was just a question as I wasn't aware if it was well known, any reason for the repetition?

Thanks for the welcomes, next job is to replace the sunroof panel with a good used one untill I get it done properly, I tried to slide the sunroof liner back but because the panel has rusted it has distorted and widened slightly making moving the panel difficult. Arse.

No, never heard of touching cloth...in fact, was kinda curious what that meant.

I did think the whole "don't know if you guys have that euphemism" thing was funny though...maybe the humour got lost in translation from American to English?

BTW, what the hell does "touching cloth" mean? Google search was basically useless, some WoW forum, some other stuff, and this Urban Dictionary one:
"turd touching cloth" - When you're losing the race to the throne, your turd is or seems to be touching your undergarments.
"Thomas, we have got to get back to the house RIGHT NOW. I've already achieved ttc, and I'm about to have this brown baby boy whether we make it or not."

Wow, that fucker must be shot...I have actually never seen a rusty E30 in person, would you believe it? I know they can be bad, but a panel getting so trashed that it no longer fits in the same hole is amazing.

                          Good luck!

                            Hi Pocket.

You have a nice Sport. I wished they had been available in North America.

Welcome to R3V. Don't be offended by some people's strong humour. It is what makes the charm of this forum. Pick your gang. Just don't side with the turds and other douche bags and you'll enjoy your trip here. ;)

Cheers chaps, rusty E30s are very common here now because of the shitty British weather, its enough to make you uptight and depressed!:-D

Yeah touching cloth basically means you're dying for a shit so bad that some of its come out and is touching your undies. Aplolgies for being so crude!

Been offered a 318is with the cleanest black leather sports interior I've ever seen, the paint is faded being red and the replica E36 M3 17s are coroded but it could be a nice little motor, I test drove it and it was the first time I'd given a four cylinder a damned good thrashing, having only owned straight-six bmws before I found that although the m42 was quite a bit slower than the 325i it did appear to rev easier and feel like a smaller GTi.
