ok so i have looked online to see if the m contour 2 rims from the m3 e36 will fit on my e30. i have seen it done but i don't know what is completely involved. The e36 have a 5 bolt pattern and the e30 has only four. i know that there are spacers that accommodate for the 5 bolt pattern, but would that push the rim too far out? or is it better to change out the whole hub. just wondering if any one here has made this conversion. if not i can always go with a 4 bolt pattern rim.

you haven't looked online hard enough. I can't believe you're asking this stupid question. I'll give you some basics, then you go on your way.
