    bmw 2002 turbo update

got it about 80% fully hooked up. Need to find a way to get an air filter on there, maybe there are some air filter socks, or mini filters of sorts.

I have to find a way to fit the wastegate against turbo, it would not fit against the fender well and I didnt want to take a hammer to it, because I do have to draw a line somewhere which would have worked. any Ideas to monitor boost without a wastegate. I do have a blowoff valve, and a boost controller, and an external wastegate , which wont mount anywhere.

In order to get the turbo piping to fit I had to cut off the 74 bumper brackets. but fear none, I did not compromise the frame rails whatsoever.

I was goign to take it around the block, but the alternator wont tension the belt (late model 320 alternator doesnt fit) so Im waiting on an e30 318 alternator.

little crack in the radiator leads to me needing a bigger and better radiator.

You need to plumb an external wastegate.

      Uhhhhh.

You could just hook a line upto the intake manifold to monitor boost. But your turbo is going to be pushing as much boost as possible with no wastegate. And kaboom goes the engine. The turbo isn't hooked up so I don't think that's an issue.

I was going to have a sandwich plate made or something, clearances are tight, so it is either find a turbo that will fit it's wastegate, or find a sandwich plate.

that being said, Im running with the wastegate all the way open so I dont damage anything right now.

the turbo had an internal wastegate which caused the turbo to not fit. I didnt want to do any permanent damage to the structure of the car, thus not hammering the fenderwell to get it to fit.

Well, I gotta List of some things I gotta check out this weekend, before I get it back on the road

I have to measure the distance between the turbo and the firewall to see if I can fit a sandwich plate there soI can run an External wastegate. From the looks of it, it should be OK. I already got the wastegate, so It's a matter of time now.

from there I have to take teh wastegate flange, have it welded rotated a tiny bit, extended, so that it will go straight under the turbo, and not get too close to anything.

Next up is mount the 318 alternator, and tensioner arm

Wire in the m30 Auto TPS, its in place, and good to go, but not wired in. so Ill have to bust out my mulitmeter and find out that business.

Hopefully with the turbo moved up/out 2inches there will be more room to run an Air filter.

gotta see if a headlight fits with the charge pipes in their location, and finish plumbing the charge pipes into BOV, and plenumb.

Have to wire in VDO gauges, senders are in place, just need to pick up an "on switch" so I can run em from the battery, and not hack into the wiring harness.

got lots of urethane bushings to go in, so thats on the list as well.

Make a Bracket for Mounting the Coilpack, and 320 Radiator.

find better plugs for 320 Head injetor ports.

drill hole, and JB weld GM air temp sensor.

possible to look into s14 starter.

                  take to exhause shop.

                  put in boost controllrar

                          Mini update,

Got the alternator on, therefore the fan belt is all good to go, and I can move on.

Before I put in the radiator (larger capacity E21 radiator). I have to figure out a way to mount the wastegate successfully. I cant use an adaptor plate, because of the lack of space. However, I Think If I can adapt the bracket from the factory wastegate, to make it a little closer to the turbo, It would then just barely fit. With some test fitting, I can get it to work, but I still have to re-drill some brackets in the factory wastegate bracket to re-position it.

Then its the charge pipes, and finding a way to position the throttle such that It can idle successfully, without manual help.

You should read up a bit more and plan your shit better than you have.

So are you just going to adjust the throttle so it idles and call that good for tuning?
