I have a line on a free VR6 wagon (5-speed :)). Basically, the story is my uncle gave the car to a mechanically inept nephew. He drove it for about 6 months before it overheated and he didn't realize it, and kept driving. As you can guess, the only problem is it needs a head gasket. Original owner (my uncle hadn't signed the title over yet), well maintained, low miles. Anyone have and experience doing head gaskets on a VR6? I know its a longshot, and I should check over on Vortex (I already have, there is a DIY there). Just wondering if anyone has ever done one of these? I've done a couple e30 head gaskets, but I have a feeling those are easy in comparison. Anyways, wish me luck. If all goes well, it will be my brothers car (I really just wanted to fix and flop it, but my he doesn't have a car, so I'll charge him and hopefully have enough for my ARC-8 wheels.

Head problems are always an issue on an iron block/aluminum head engine that is overheated. The fact that the VR6 shares 1 head for 2 cylinder banks means that any warping will be compounded. Great engine, as long as you take care of them. Do the chain guides & tensioners while you're in there.
Or just swap in a TDI & run it forever.

Doing the head gaskets on a e30 is easy compared to a vr6, but vr6 wagons are sick!Originally posted by Beej '86 325esevery time an M-tech 1 spoiler is destroyed, a baby seal dies.87 325:83 jetta coupe:99 volvo c70:99 volvo s70Originally posted by JparkrThe last thing we need are more of the retards on here thinking they are engineers too.

VR head gasket is not bad to do at all.
It's unlikely that the head warped ( it's not very common ), check it with a straight edge when you have it out. Timing chains are usually done in cars over 150k miles, some need them sooner, some later. If you have the write up from the tex and you have wrenched before it's no biggie.

I had a similar car pass through my family aswell
It had 130k when we got it, probably drove it 45k no problems. My mom totaled it
I was always pissed it was faster than my e30
No hate towards VAG cars from me
Everyone in my car has a vw or audi
The vr6 is pretty bullit proof
HunterWe're out there in here.
