hate to open an old thread but I have this problem, but only in neutral with the clutch engaged, foot off clutch pedal, and my tranny makes a lot clunking noises, sounds like a rod knock, I think its a bad input shaft bearing but some old bmw factory techy said alot the 5 speed e30's did this and all it needs is heavier weight gear oil, I put in the royal purple shit when I did the conversion. could the gear oil be a factor? the noise disappears as soon as I depress the clutch pedal, has new spec dual friction clutch, resurfaced lightened flywheel, new throwout bearing, and has done this since putting it in the car.sigpic
