    This place sucks.

So I went Strut and shock shopping today in an area I'm not at all familiar with. My wife just moved here and I'm lost. I found out that no one carries shocks or struts for my 85 eta. It was sooooo much fun entering a store and them telling me to try this place or this place. Well a couple of bad directions later I come back home get on the net, and I find a place that has the struts in stock. They're KYB GR-2s. I dont want them but my friend keeps telling me to buy them because he has some low end KYBs on his jetta. I don't like the way they feel but the only other choices I have are, buys some off of ebay, hope a local guy I called has some on one of his used cars and hopefully he can get them to me in a day or two. My friend told me gabriels would work too.He drive sh^t cars with even sh^ttier parts. I think he just hasn't eperienced a good ride. He's used to junk suspension so his opinion goes out the window. oh well. any advice? Can anyone point me in the right direction? Oh yeah im not trying to pay a arm and a leg.

On the net you'll find some good stuff.

    @ Turner Motorsport

    Ireland Engineering

    @ Tirerack.com

Hope that helps some, if you look around in the suspension sub forum you'll see some threads that are packed with good information.

Many suggest the H&R Cupkit, or H&R Spring/Bilstien Kit because they are well worth the money.

Yeah, unless you live in Mass, Richmond, or SoCal there isnt really any place that carries BMW stuff that you can walk into.

I would be glad to let you drive my car with the dreaded KYB's and B+G springs, on 215/40/17 Yoko ES100's. Ride is a bit stiffer than it was on 16's (duh) but overall, pretty sweet.
I am making a long ass commute, over 120 miles daily, through farmland roads. My back is OK, the drive is a blast.

Since I am into the springs, struts and shocks a total of about $300 I am thrilled with the performance. I do wish I had just left the rear spring pads off, but I will pull them later.

PTG's actually out in Winchester, about 80 miles north of Richmond. They don't really sell any "OEM" parts either, mostly highly prepped race stuff. It's not a "shop" in a conventional sense, it's a full on race shop.

If you want good parts at good prices, you can forget local parts stores in most areas of the country. Even if you find OE quality parts for these cars at a local Euro parts supplier, you will pay a lot more than you would on the web.

It sounds like you are more interested in ride quality than performance(i.e. You want it somewhat cushy.)
I would go with Boge(OEM) or maybe Bilstein Touring.

                    025. Bilstein Touring Class shocks 1983 - 1991 Touring class set of 4. FOR 318is,325e,325es,325i,325is. 219.00

                    034. Sachs/Boge shocks 1983 - 1991 set of 4, 279.00

We specialize in import auto parts

Call BMA if you want Boge. The last time I talked to them, they had Boge for about the same price as Bilstein Touring, and they will probably match Shox.com's $219 price on the Bilstein Touring. . .+ you can get any other parts you may need in the same shipment.
