        You can get a cheap plastic drop light from auto zone for like $6. Does your house not have a lamp you can use?

            haha been there done that. swap an alternator laying in slush in sub zero weather with a mag light. then you get to complain. heheh.

            seriously though i feel your pain, i'm wrapping up this headgasket/timing belt job and the lack of light in my garage irks me. and my batteries to the headlamp are out. grr

                You know, I have been using this old POS drop light thats all busted to hell for years. I finally ponyed up the cash for a nice one....about $40, and I hate it! I can never see when Im using it and its always in the way!

                        My garage had terrible lighting, only two 60 watt bulbs in a 2.5 stall garage, I picked up one of those hanging lights that has two florescent bulbs, it was around 20 bucks at menards. I set it up right above my stall and it made a huge difference.
