    New Porsche 911s (to me)

So I finally decided on the car that took the place of the 540i/6.
I test drove a nice Grand National and thought the power was amazing but trying to navigate a turn with that much power and torque was not going to happen. My next test was a Mazda RX8. I loved the bold appearance of the RX8 with the aggressive fenders and hide away rear doors. The 1.8 rotatory engine torque left me wanting more. The handles of the RX8 were very impressive but the lack of horse power and torque would leave me wanting more. The next car was a nice 2003 S2000. This was a really impressive all around car but me being 6ft 3inches and 235lbs seemed like a tight squeeze.

The last test was a 1977 Porsche 911s that only had 84,000 original miles with an impeccable maintenance history. By far this vintage Porsche out performed all cars previously test driven. This car felt like a ready made track car full of power and torque. Words cannot describe the feeling of this 911. My track e30 equipped with race suspension and a powerful swapped 3.5 liter motor does not compare to the feeling of this 911. Here are the pics from me leaving with my new 911!

you will want to get the "pop off valve" for the airbox before you have a backfire and it cracks it. you don't want to know how much it is to replace it either.

Aren't the 74-77 models with the mech fuel injection the ones everybody steers clear of?

there were these weird exhaust gas recirc tubes that ran under the cyl head that clogged and caused problems like baking the oil return tube seals and causing leaks. you can remove them and plug them and for the most part get away with removing that emission crap that did not work in most states.

All's been done including helicoiled head, upgraded Carrera chain tensioner, and rubber centered clutch to name a few items on the maintenance records.
The main upgrade is the helicoiled head which insures many many more years and miles of spirited driving.

Nice buy, I've always loved 911's. Did you get the original driver's seat in the sale?

That's why the mid-years are a killer value if you find a sleeper. Eventually those 2.7l magnesium cases have a bad day with aluminum heads and bolts. But swap some non diving boards and a late 80's motor in and you got a beast.

Guy down the street has a 77? with a modern motor in it that he races at PIR. It's bright green and sounds mean.

The previous owner actually has the turbo version of the 911 (930) he says it is insanely fast. After I'm done with this I may go to the 930. I think I should crawl into the Porsche scene before running.:)
