    Annoying/Loud Exhaust...Need advice

So, first off...I put a 272 cam and did the 2.7i stroker for my 88 supereta...I have a magnaflow street series muffler on it with the stock pipes/cat, etc. It is too damn loud...What would be a quieter, "non-stock" exhaust...budget is a key thing too...im a college student...dont have much...I think my pipes have a couple pin holes...so was thinking a cat-back system...Any recommendations? Heres a clip of my exhaust

It has an annoying drone to it...I just need something quieter...but i definately wanna hear something when im up in the higher rpm's which sounds better with my exhaust...its the low end...its just a bogged down annoying noise...i can't explain it.

Cat back is a good idea. How big are your tips?

I have a Magnaflow & it was too loud @ highway speeds. I had the exhaust shop install a small resonator just aft of the cat. While it didn't tame it much it did shift the drone from 3,200 down to about 2,700rpm. At 70mph it doesn't drone too badly any more.

I had the same exhaust on my e46 with stock resonators and it was not loud at all. Try just adding a resonator and fixing the holes in your exhaust. You would be surprised at how much louder an exhaust is with just small holes in the right spot.

my 2.7 stroker has a Mitsubishi Eclipse exhuast that was retrofitted... Sacrilege I know, but it works great and sounds perfect, just the right noise level.

Anyway magnaflow is about the loudest you can have. people hate it. I like raw sounding exhaust you know No cat, headers, straight pipes.

I've heard a IE exhaust and it it was pretty tame.

On a 2.5 inch single exhaust, stock m20b25, I replaced a stupidly loud Remus with a Dynomax, and it cut the noise level to about a third, with much nicer tone, and cut the drone by 80% or more:

Do I LOOK like I need a psychological evaluation???

I'd try adding a resonator as mentioned above. Sounds awesome at idle if you ask me.

Actually, adding the longest possible cherry bomb upstream of the magnaflow or adding another muffler would probably work fine. It made mine significantly quieter and cut down on rasp.

Do you have the eta stock pipes & cat or the 325i dual exhaust?
