NEW turbo 2002 UPDATE****** It's on the road now!

So I was able to get it able to drive now. Everything is hooked up, I just need to Iron out a couple things, and Tune the beast.

Car cant hold an idle, cause it goes too lean. didnt have my comp, so I couldnt adjust the tune. but I could drive it, but just blipping the throttle when I came to a stop. that being said it has a 12AFR across the board, until it drops to an idle in which it goes to 16 and dies.

I can say up to 3K rpms It hauls much harder than my 318is and the tii previously, and I wasnt going full throttle due to lack of tune. It wouldnt run past that (3k anyway) due to lack of enrichment and tuning.

    Need help with
couple of problems right now that I need to iron out:
Boost gauge was not picking up any boost, however, when I gave it some gas, and it revved up, you could feel the pressure in the silicone clamps, with a squeeze. Wastegate didnt seem to be working either, however, according to the boost gauge I wasnt making enough boost anyway....

Im concerned if it's not boosting or it is OVER boosting however THE AFR is not going lean., or if there is a major vacuum leak or something. I looked throught it all and didn't see any leaks, I probably would have seen them anyway.

Eventually I'll have an external welded into the manifold but for now I want it to be drivable. But Im wondering why it wasnt picking up any boost, maybe I had it placed in the wrong vacuum line, because the gauge does work. (tested with other pressures)

    enjoy the pictures.

you won't be making any boost by revving it up in neutral, the car needs to have load on it.

If boost gauge is a vac/boost combo than it needs to be hooked up after the throttle plate.

looks like a fun project, tuning with MS?

It is hooked after the throttle plate, good to know I had it hooked up right.

ohhh! Ill try driving it around the block and looking at the boost gauge next time, not the AFR

yup, im tuning with MSns Extra 2.2

I only scratched the surface of tuning now, I need to really learn the techniques and get a grasp of everything.

yeah the tuning has a steep learning curve but if you can get a good ignition map from somewhere then tuning VE map is easy. check out e30tech for maps information on getting the startup things sorted.

It could be leaning out and dying after startup because of the afterstart enrichment settings, or bad settings on an idle valve.

I dont have an Idle control valve on this bad boy.

Someone emailed me a Tuning map (pinepig)
and for some reason It wasnt being accepted by my megasquirt we have different versions of MSns. his is ms extra ae86 or something and mine is ms extra hr_10

found a different source for a map though, ill just have to do it by hand http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...32&postcount=3

The MSQ file has to be for MS1 Extra HR in order to work. Otherwise you can enter some of the numbers manually.

Just put the numbers in manually, remember like I told ya to take 2 or 3 degrees out above 7psi ( where my water injection kicks in ) they will be a pretty good starting point for ya.

It actually transfered over. It was wierd.

It said it wasnt accepting or osmethign, bunch of warnings came up, then whe I checked the spark map.... BAM all the right numbers were up.

I cant wait to go back to the bay area to plug it in!

just read the whole thread at the 02 faq. i have a LOT more reading to do before i even attempt a turbo build! lol
all the management system stuff goes right over my head right now, but i understand all the physical/mechanical parts of the turbo system fairly well.
