    bad day yesterday!!!!

To make a long story short, low oil is a VERY bad thing. Anyways, my m42 may have kicked the bucket. Anyone have any good leads for an engine? Or any ideas for a swap. I would be on a budget of about $2000.
I was thinking m50 but I couldnt remember if it would mount to my transmission or not. Please help me out guys.

p.s. and please no flaming, i'm already bummed out.

    Ouch, sorry to hear.

Your transmission should be able to mount up to an M50 with a new mount and a few other small things. ( I don't want to give you bad information) So I suggest to start reading through the Comprehensive DOHC Swap Thread in the Engine and Drivetrain Swaps section.

You ain't gonna pull off an M50 swap with tranny and all the other required components for 2k.

Go find another m42 and be done with it, that'll probably run you 6-800 bucks.

Or does anyone know of a reputable shop in east Tennessee that could possibly rebuild my motor?

well, what exactly is wrong with your motor? Cause it might not be worth rebuilding...

Yeah Jason, what IS wrong with your m42?
I'm with the guys here.. the m50 swap would be too pricey.

Oh, and Drew, he's in/around Morristown.

i'm about an hour from UTK.

I am not sure yet what is wrong with my motor. hereis what happened:
Started making a funny noise at idle. kinda sounded like there was no oil in the car. It was very low on oil. I added oil, but it stiill sounded funny, but only when the car was idling. I pulled over to check the oil,it was stiil ok. when I started the car again, it was hard to get started and the noise was VERY loud, and it did not go away when I revved up the car. It sounded like it was coming from under the valve cover. The sound kinda reminded me of someone getting ready to hock a loogie (sp), only a lot harsher and louder.
Just think of what it sounds like when valves tick a little bit, and multipy that sound by 100!

best advice is to take it to a shop with BMW experience...it'll cost a bit to find out whats wrong, but its best to know exactly whats wrong before you start planning to spend money you dont need to spend.

I got drunk in Morristown once.
