Oil Pan Concerns in heavy snow

While driving around in this beautiful weather the great lakes area is seeing I am finding that the deep snow is hiding a lot of things. My main concern deals mainly with the loud clunks and bangs that I have heard a couple of times from under my car. I am assuming that these are chunks of thick icy snow that have either built up or fallen off of other cars. Is there any concern of these chunks doing the same damage as some high spots of concrete or rocks?

Has anyone had any experience with this and do you guys think I should get a skid plate and be done with it? Just doesn't justify spending $185. I don't track the car but it is lowered only by HR sports so that is minimal.

H&R sports are pretty damned low up front. If the iX didn't have the oil pan oriented correctly, I would be scared shitless of driving K's car right now.

Im running around in Columbus too. side roads are pretty bad around here, but unless its frozen [like the last few nights] i think you should be okay.

H&R Race springs. The ejnight skid plate has saved me a bunch of times, its worth the money.

Yea I am gonna have to pull the trigger on his skid plat soon. My car is going back to my dads barn for the summer for him to drive/tinker with. I think I will have to get the skid plate before the winter of 2010-2011 hits.

Do you think that those chunks could crack open the pan?

Get the skid plate. Oil pan is 100 plus the pain/cost of replacing. We install EJs stuff all the time, usually after someone busts their pan and learns the hard way...

That is a good point. Not to mention the cost of a tow on top of parts.

yeah oil pans are no fun to break.
i would love to get a skid plate cause that thing is too vulnerable up there.

i almost fucked myself again last night too! going through a parking lot with a bunch of water and there was a submerged parking curb in it. coulda been bad!

I made the first plate after buying my 89 with no pan or pump on it, after it went over a speed bump to fast.
