    timimng belt 1/2 tooth off?

i am doing the timing belt and water pump on my 91 325i and the timing cam gear is 1/2 a tooth off or less? someone has made a new slash in the gear just to the right of the factory timing mark at a little less than 1/2 tooth.

    WTF?
everything spins freely, no binding, and it lines up perfectly with the non factory mark.

if you mill the head which way will it move the timing mark, clockwise or counter clockwise?

i have no real history on the motor other than it is a seta stroker with an oddball head.

    ideas?

    N54 swap

and no, sry. I need to do a timing belt and I'm afraid of it breaking before I get to, or having something go wrong during or after the swap.

PM me for detailing services in the Longmont / Boulder Area in Colorado!
