    carpet for car

i'm working on an 88 ix and need new carpet. any advice on where i can buy new or used? im looking for cardinal red. i'm changing the interior and the carpet i have is black.

Going to be tough to find that. I'm almost positive the carpets for IXs is different because of the bump by the transmission tunnel for the transfer case. Finding a red carpet is hard enough, let alone one for an IX.

i have (2) 88 ixs and one 89 ix. i've never been in a two wheel drive e30. i guess i didn't know there was a difference in the tunnel.

He is right on both accounts. IX carpet is specific to the car and cardinal is NLA
About the only thing thats avail is anthracite. i sold a new set of anthracite last week and its amazing how nice new carpet is.

There is a company who makes them aftermarket, but I've heard they are garbage.

I suppose you could have something made but have you ever looked at the foam on the bottom of an e30 carpet? its form fitting like a pair of bike shorts on graves.
The other thing you may try is get some tan and dye it. I think thats the lightest color there is

1982-1986 BMW 325i carpet Heat and Pressure Molded to the original floor pan, made with Top Quality auto carpet materials. Carpet fits BMW 325i 2 Door Coupe just like OEM when installed.

That is for a 325i, it may not fit your IX perfectly, but it might be worth a shot.

I went from a light grey to black, looks pretty good but I think I shouldn't have diluted it so much because it took a few coats. Haven't had any issues with it yet. The people at americolor told me automotive shops use their dye.

thanks for the info. what is duplicolor? is that a dye also? i do have the tan carpet in one ix that i could dye and put in the one i'm changing and put the black back with the tan interior. i like the idea of just buying one if the fit worked and the quality was good

Duplicolor is cheap spray on dye crap that is okay for small tasks but I tried it on the parcel shelf and wasn't impressed.
