    1/2 tank ??

My fuel guage wont go over half at 1/4 I filled up and would only take 6 gallons. Is it the guage of the sender? Thanks in advance.

Well you gotta check the resistance of the sender. If it checks ok then its a gauge.

This should be a required reading with every e30 ownership - http://www.wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm

Late model cars have TWO senders, they are wired in SERIES. BOTH have to be fully working.

Yeah, with mine, it goes all the way the Full, but the halfway mark on the gauge means empty. The previous owner of the cluster said it always went to E, when it got empty.

It appears that my new cluster is doing this... which sucks.

Is there any way to take the gas gauge out of my old e cluster and put it into y new i cluster?

          (need teh higher rpm tach)

I have a cluster from an "e" with a 7,000 RPM red line "i" tac w/painted red needles if you're in the market. Will part cheap

            Shameless plug.

OP, turned out my gauge was bad in my DD 318is. I mostly go by mileage. At 310 miles on a tank I fill up religiously. It bugs me at times, but I'm just not into trouble shooting that small of a problem... yet.
            Need a part? PM me.

Naw, I have an e and i cluster in my garage... I could just make what you're selling me. I think... but still wondering if I can flop in the gas gauge from my old tach...

Yes, you can remove the gauge from one cluster and put it in another. Cluster is not "one single component".

Sweet, wasn't sure how it responded to being swapped from an e to an i though. With different chip etc....

I'll have to poke around with it. Thanks for the confirmation.

The gas gauge needs to match the tank/senders...there were small/big tanks. For example, if you install a late model gauge/cluster in an early car the gauge will be OFF.

e30 rule of thumb.... if you take a late cluster and put it in an early car you have to swap the fuel gauge or the new one will read 1/2 tank when full.

BUT the fuel reserve light will still function correctly.

^ correct... as the fuel reserve light is and on/off switch in the thinner of the two senders.

I have a stock 91 318is with a Mark D chip. How many miles does a full tank last with average driving? And how many gallons is the reserve once it lights up?
