Is that why the hood looks all jacked in your pic?

I would like to post a first hand account of buying a DTM Fiberwerkz piece.

In short it will not work for my application.

A small bit about myself: I have 3 race cars, I lay my own fiberglass hoods, trunks , wide fenders etc. My best friend is one of the most incredible and talented automotive restorer in our city of 1M people. Our free time is spent wrenching and creating....so yeah we have a bit of experience.

I purchased an e30 M3 Evo kit front bumper/spoiler from DTM to replaced a Fibreartz piece which was damaged beyond repair.

    1. The DTM piece is quite heavy, bare without inner core support it is 2lbs heavier than my fiberartz piece with an inner core support and side brackets installed. This is not bad just an observation.

    2. lots of Bubbles and voids between the gelcoat and the glass mat.

    3. The brake vents which I paid $80 extra for are 180 degrees flipped from the pictures on the site, which means they foul the frame rails. The advice from Ari was to trim them but that would mean you would need to notch them beyond the gelcoat essentially you would see the frame rail / mounting flange peeking through the brake duct....not acceptable for me.

    4. The sides of the bumper are 3" too wide on each side, you cannot bring them in enough without compromising the piece. Keep in mind the overall piece is not 3" wider just that the side which attaches to the wheel housing is too opened up too much - as though the piece is warped or the mold is worn. Our solution is to cut a slot to release the pressure and re-glass and fill. In short it is a ton of work to get this fit right.

While all fiberglass pieces require some fit to work and look right, I can tell you from experience the Fiberartz piece was so much better out of the box it is not even funny.

While I don't mind customizing the car or piece to fit the problem is that with the DTM piece every time you buy a new one (something common with race cars) you need so much work it is not worth it. We have decided to not use this piece.

Just wanted to give a real world opinion.

    Anthony

I am so pissed that Fil stopped doing E30 stuff. I was going to get one of his M-Tech II rear valances.

if you are willing to figure out how to attach the fiberglass, you are going to want to look at the thickness and durability of the pieces along how smooth the pieces are (not wavey).

i have fit A LOT of fiberglass body kits on different cars. NONE OF THEM bolt on with out at least a little bit of fitting. that is just the way it is, no matter WHOM you buy it from.
