Tire Rack $50 rebate - Z1 Star Spec or DZ101?

For anyone interested, there's a a $50 rebate if you buy 4 Dunlops from Tire Rack between 2/13 - 4/17:

    Should I get:
    - $378 205/50/15 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec (extreme performance)
    - $250 205/55/15 Dunlop Direzza DZ101 (ultra high performance)

The goal is to make this a canyon carving daily driver. The plan is to attend 1-2 HPDE/year. I only have 2 track days under my belt, so I don't need a crazy aggresive tire. Up-sizing to 16's isn't an option.

I've read awesome things about the Z1 Star Spec, but it's only available in the smaller 205/50 size. I've already reduced the gearing with a 4.10 LSD from 3.73, and I'm afraid that the 3.3% reduction will make the gearing on the stock M20B25 too short.

I also don't want to drop the car too much since the Bilstein / H&R sports drop the car by ~1.25. The smaller tires will drop it by another .8"

    My setup:
    '89 325i
    15x7 BBS RZ
    M20B25 / 4.10 LSD (stock chip / injectors)
    Bilstein Sport / H&R Sport
    22mm FSB / 19mm RSB
    4
Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec 205/50/15
    50.00%
    2
    Dunlop Direzza DZ101 205/55/15
    50.00%

What wheels are you running? The choices you have seem too narrow.

I think the Z1s will make your car feel awesome. You already have a sweet suspension!

I'm not sure what tires you're running now, but if you are currently on some sporty-ish tires like Yokohama ES100/S.drive, or BF-G G-Force Sports, the Z1s will be a different animal! They're a 200 treadwear tire, so they'll wear OK. Not great, but definitely a full season.

205 tires are fine on 15x7. I have the same size on my car, and with 205s, the tires weren't too skinny for the wheels.

My girlfriend and I are extremely pleased with the Z1 star spec's on her impreza. I'd plan on getting some once I get some new wheels.
