This is on every car forum imaginable with no links or substantiation. The subaru crowd pretty much said f* you, it's some other turbo company's clever marketing tactic:

Everything's f'in made in china these days, that's what makes this post so easy to believe.

Send over a bottle of bubbly with a bucket of ice and a card. Have it say, Tough break, get drunk on me. Use the bucket to ice down your marbles, Yours, Z.

have any proof of the fact that its another turbo company's marketing?

cause i only saw a handful of posts on that thread saying fuck you, and only one saying that it was probably another turbo company's marketing. and even then, thats a pretty elaborate story to just blow out of your ass

That's the point. No, I don't have a reason to say it's legit or not legit. But my many years of internet-ing tell me to be skeptical.

my good friend Greg (the guy who is machining my conrods in my engine thread) works for honeywell/garret/allied signal. this shit has been going down for YEARS! i remember back in the early/mid 90's having him tell me not to buy a NEW garret turbo, but to buy used and have it rebuilt locally because the were being made in mexico and the failier rate was out of control.

yes, they have slashed the shit out of the benefits for the employes, last year they were required to take 30 days total off UNPAID! they are preposing doing it again this year. gone is life time healthcare for retirees (one of the only things keeping him there) IIRC he has worked for them in one incarnation or another for 19 or so years. the utter waste that goes on at the company is hard to imagine. he works in missle guidence systems and the amount to tools and equipment that is thrown away is absolutely unreal.

a lot of Garrett's are still made in UK...

One disgruntled employee is being a dickface and I hope he's fired. A lot of businesses aren't as economically strong and honeywell are doing the best they can to stay afloat. Garrett holds the most turbo patents in the industry and I'd still buy it over any other brand if money isn't an issue.

Honeywell will eventually drop prices anyway.

No, thats just free-market capitalism. Any small business would also jump at the chance to lower production and labor costs, as well as not have to provide benefits to its workers by moving operations overseas. Any business, small or giant, is always going to try and make as much money as legally possible. That point cant be argued.

So blame free-market capitalism or labor laws all developed countries have adopted. Also blame our government for currently engaging in a tit-for-tat trade embargo showdown with China instead of rallying the rest of the developed world to force China to adopt better labor laws. I also blame unions but thats just me.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.
