Z1 were imported as Show Cars so they are limited too 3K miles or less a year and generally only allowed in the US for a year then have to be exported or destroyed or sold to another person or business.

Including the V12 LMR and McLaren F1 GTRs. Dear god those sound amazing.

Care to explain WHY you didn't have a fucking video camera on a goddamn tripod in front of your shop? If you needed a camera, R3V would have passed the fucking hat to make sure you got one!

Go pick up the latest issue of "BMW CAR," they have a feature on the prototype M8 that was built.

The carbon fiber intake on the V12 is worth the $11 newsstand price per issue.

...sorry? The times I just had my camera in my backpack, and the other people saw it, it was made explicitly clear that if I was seen using it I would be on the spot fired and sent back home. They go to the length of painting over cell phone cameras on the BMW-supplied phones. I worked in a subsection of the prototype/R&D division, and they take intellectual property and corporate espionage extremely seriously.

Plus, with the weather as craptacular as it was, seeing the McLarens was a once-every-few-months occasion.

Thanks for posting this, I wouldn't have known at all. Cheers!

FWIW, the M8 is rumored to be in the Giftschrank, or "poison storage." Different place from BMW Classic.

Dude, you should have known I was writing in humor, not any kind of serious attack.

But seriously...no cameras, no nothing...no surprise. Bummer, but no surprise.

hahaha I know you were, I just wanted to clear that question up for people who are wondering the same question.

Not being able to photograph the cool shit that wasn't super secret (like the Classic car selection, the F1 cars after the season, etc) was incredibly annoying. What was incredibly entertaining would be to see either here on r3v or autoblog or somewhere a post saying "look at the new rumored bmw under its camo, this is the first time this car has ever been photographed!!!1!11one!" and I'd have seen it for months at that point. The spy photographers are seriously lazy, it's sooooo easy to see the prototypes in the open through the fences.

Case in point: 5 GT, X5/6 M, Mini SUV, X1, Z4, ......... saw all of those way before any word appeared in the US. Reading "we think it has this and will do this and will come out in this year" and actually knowing they're completely full of crap was beyond fun.
