Pulling a motor at the junkyard

So I got my eye on this m30 at the pick n pull. It's on a seven series, so I figure I'll disconnect the transmission underneath the car if I can get to all the little male torx bolts. I know how to disconnect all the various hoses, but here's the question:

Once it's ready, how do you proceed? I was just hoping someone had some experience with this. Should I bring chains, and they'll grab the chain with a forklift and dump the engine in my truck?

Or should I slide a pallet under the car and drop the engine down under the car then drag the pallet out for a forklift?

Bueller? Anyone done this on the gravel in the sun? Sounds like a pain in the ass, but I'm fairly sure I can get a good deal.

It's a lot easier to disconnect the driveshaft (with a sawzall) than the transmission :p

There is a fairly obvious hooking point in the front, behind the distributor cap. There is a less obvious one in the back, above the trans.

I've pulled an engine before and I know about the hole back by the starter.

You're saying to pull the engine tranny as a combo then disconnect the e32 tranny that I don't want out of the car right?

You think they'd bring the forklift over and haul it out for me?

At our local pick and pull they had a huge a frame puller with a pulley setup. I would pull the engine and tranny out together, then disconnect the tranny once they are out of the car. Good luck.

Bad news, while taking pics of the motor and planning how I'd pull it, I was informed that "all the motors still in cars are for cores only, running engines sit in the warehouse"

Oh well, I might still pull the e32 oil pan and head if I get bored.

Doesn't mean its bad still...they probably pull them themselves and resell at higher prices.

At $200 for the long block (if this is pnp) it's worth pulling if it looks clean under the vc and it's not a c4c car imho.

I would disconnect the hood/driveshaft/shifter stuff...and pull the engine with the tranny out. It will be much easier to remove the tranny from it that way.
