    Attn: German Members!

Anyone around the Dusseldorf Area? Any good yards around there? More specifically, I'll be between the big city and Krefeld for a while. Any meets or stuff around then? Later on I will be driving out to Bavaria, and staying with my family in Murnau. I'm really hoping to see the museum in München. I'm still planning out my stay for the summer.
    Let me know!

I spent last year in Munich, so I can recommend quite a bit to do there.

As for your idea of junkyarding.....honestly don't bother. You would need to ship your tools, figure out shipping and customs, transportation, storage......

For what sounds like a vacation I wouldn't even bother. I had the same idea while living in Munich and realized I'd rather enjoy my time in Europe than go scrounging for dirty grungy broken parts. The yards have all been worked over, you will not find anything except junk 316i parts. No Mtechs, euro bumps, etc. Don't waste your time there.

Damn that's discouraging. I collect europlate frames and shit like that. Are those usually free at dealers and stuff? I am for sure trying to get stuff for my 505, that's sorta a must (well in France). I kinda wanted to snag some euro headlight wipers, plate filler, bumper trims, etc... I'm really tryna get out to the ring in the 190.

I have been to Germany twice and England once.

All 3 times I found wrecking yards who not only loaned me tools, but had a nice selection of euro lights, bumpers, 316 hvac surrounds, yadda yadda.

Customs is easy as hell if you carry some of the stuff back with you, otherwise its simple shipping as scrap metal.

These cars are the Chevys of the Fatherland.
most junk yards have a pile of them.

If you're good with the language, you can easily talk the owner to loaning you some tools.

You can have your family ship you the parts that you cannot carry back, later.

Save some shipping $$$$ as it's not always cheap.

You can bring back some parts to sell to us, and make most, if not all of your $$$$ back!

and yes the plate frames are free...just like here in the states.

You can probably snab 100's of them in a yard for little to no $

                      !
not quite sure what germany you are in but there is not 1 e30 to be found in any of the German yards around me.
best bet is to shop on german ebay (most of the time cheaper) and ship it to your relatives house to take back with you.

plate frames should be no problem though.--- headlight washers yeah right, they are in the same corner with the BBR Rs's and free M tech stuff.

and if you are that close to Munich-- you should be shot for not making it to BMW WELT!!!

^true....I have exhausted the supply of "good" E30 parts at the yard I frequent. I tried another in Mannheim but the African guys that own it have already stripped and shipped everything south. I have a few more to try around Ludwigshafen but I don't have high hopes. Good luck in your search. And to those who think they are the Chevys of Germany, you're right...but when was the last time you saw a guy holding onto some 20-25 yr old POS cavaliers/cimarrons/camaros/etc, you get the idea. To the Germans, it's just another OLD car, and OLD=Shit.

My last spotting of parts cars was Frankfurt...

But that was a few years ago.

thats about a 6 hour drive. in a fun car, with luck and no traffic, about 4.5. If you are doing that drive, you will be about 15 min. out of the way from my place. you can stop by and hang out for a bit if you want- maybe get i'll even get the M out of the garage.

yeah, e30s are not really on the roads very much anymore here. you probably see more e30s in a week in the states than here-- except the winter months-- all the e46/e36 groupies use the e30s as winter beaters.
