    Silly French ( car related)

This was an official letter from a french motorist who was caught driving 178km/hr in a 50 zone.

Your honor, I saw the well marked "50" on the Panel, but without another indication of units. Are you not unaware of that the law of July 4, 1837 declares that the metric system of is the system of France and that the appeal n°65-501 of modified 3 May 1961 defines as BASIC LEGAL UNITS the units of the international system (S.I).

You can check all that on the site of the French government: http://www.industrie.gouv.fr/metro/aquoisert/si.htm >

In system S.I, the unit of length is the meter "and the unit of time is the" second ". It is thus obvious that the unit LEGAL speed is then the METER A per econd. I can not imagine for a second that the Ministry of the Interior does not apply the laws of the Republic.
50 m/s correspond exactly to 180 km/h and that the police officers affirm that I was clocked with 178 km/h which I dispute by no means, I was therefore 2 km/h under the authorized limit!

    i loosely translated this..

LOL. I think he should get acquited for finding a rather original way of getting himself out of the shit he's in. But that's just me.

Lol, even though he should get the ticket because legalities aside he knew damned well what unit of measurement the sign was supposed to indicate; I hope he gets off just because it's such a beautiful slap in the face to the jerk cops who spend their days radaring people instead of *gasp* protecting and serving. :D

if the guy was truely doing 178 in a 50 zone then arresting him was protecting and serving the other passerbies. In my opinion anyway.

I'd like to read the french version if it's possible.

                SVP:

                http://www.industrie.gouv.fr/metro/aquoisert/si.htm>

Sounds like something I would do. Oh wait, I did ...except not nearly as complex/cool. If you're creative you can often have a somewhat decent argument for your ticket.

I was clocked going 52 in a 35. Upon investigating, I found that there was no speed limit sign anywhere on that road coming from my direction. I did a little research and found a law that said the speed on county roads is 50 unless otherwise posted. Because this road is slightly outside of city limits (thus a county road) and there were no posted signs, I argued that the speed limit was 50. Going 52 in a 50 isnt THAT bad is it? Turns out I requested the wrong type of traffic court and the judge didn't really care about my side. But it COULD have worked...
