    question on installing a chip

i picked up a used markD chip from a member a while back and last weekend i picked up a 173 ecu from the wreckers. i installed the chip in the ecu and swapped it out for my motronic 1.3 ecu. i tried to fire it up and crank no start with a heavy gas smell. so it is prob not firing.
i swapped back my old ecu and after a little bit of cranking necause it was flooded. it fired right up.

my question is, are the chips orintated a certain direction (like the notch in the chip to one side or the other or is the ecu bad maybe?

any ideas before i blame the chip?

    thanks

yes, notch on the chip should be the same direction as the one you pulled out. also, if you look at the socket, it should have the same little notch in it.

yep, put the chip in the wrong way and nnoooo workie!

i pulled it out, flipped it around and BAM everything worked. HUGE improvement!

still have to do a little tuning with the piggy back though.
i now know what a 2.7 stroker with ITB's, 292* cam, MAF conversion/ piggy back, and 19lb injectors SHOULD feel like!

this will get me by until i get the MS and start all over again tuning.
