are you looking for the tool to remove the control arms bushing from the sprindle? that would be a pickle fork. you can get one at any auto parts store for $10, or are you talking about the tool to remove the bushing from the control arm? if so just buy new control arms or rent one from auto zone or wuteva you have out there for auto parts stores

All you need to do is use a press or a strong vice to get the job done. Get a short piece of pipe the same diameter as the outer metal ring of the lollipop and place that on one side of the cab lollipop. Then put the new cab on the other side and sandwich that in a vice. The new bushing will push the old bushing out and into the pipe that you bought. Just make sure you line up the marks on the bushings to the arrow marks on the lollipop if you got non solid bushings.

well i get the cammando route but i was trying to do it with a bit more finnesse...i was thinking more about getting the whole unit of off the arm itself. some type of moded gear puller or such... and pressing them in to the lollipop w a vise is all good but what puts them back on the arm itself?

if i get a pickle fork do i just beat them like drag link ball joints?

Get a 3 jaw puller. Works like a fuckin charm. Rent one for free at any autozone.

I would never install stock rubber bushings on any E30, so I simply press them on.

It was a while since I did mine..
Pretty sure I used a 3-jaw puller to remove CAB 'lollipop' from control arm.
A hacksaw was used to cut through old bushing - being careful to not cut into lollipop. After the cut was made through old bushing, hammer/pry/push/beat old bushing from lollipop.

I used a dead-blow hammer and a flat surface to drive new CAB into lollipop. Note alignment marks.

Use dishsoap to lubricate CAB for installation of CAB onto control arm.

After everything is buttoned back up - promptly drop car to ground (on its wheels) and allow to sit for .. (shit- I forgot how long - like 12 hours?)(BMW uses a special lube that 'sits' in ~30 min)(the dishsoap takes a while longer)
