I would definitely be interested to see some drawings/pics/ideas of what this would be like. I love the look of the e46 armrest/cupholder, but the console is about 0.5" wider than the e30 console so it leaves some funny little overhangs where it meets the shifter console.

I think the main issue with drop in arm rests is that you need to strengthen the center console. It is def not made to have an arm rest built in.

Back when these cars were new, I installed a few armrests for the dealer (I did TONS of cars for Rassmussen BMW and MBZ) and they brought me the official BMW one: it had braces that went under the seat rails. I remember pissing and moaning about having to pull the damn seats and them pissing and moaning when they got the bill...

But yeah, lots of guys have come in here with brilliant ideas (remember the Russian kid with all the damn nasty bondo crap?) but R3V has always been the tough place.
