i have been debating on swapping a m30 into my e30 and i have been hearing some things. that they have problems with overheating and i think i read somewhere that they dont use alot of the same swap parts as you would with a 24v swap and that the electrical is a pain. i plan on using a m30b35.can anybody help me out with this or give me some suggestions or things to watch out for? thanks for the help

cooling is definitely the biggest issue. make sure you have an electric fan, with a low-temp switch. mine had a pusher type fan, and it cooled nicely, once finally sorted out.
the electrical stuff seemed to not be that big of an ordeal.
if you can track down joe funk, he's got a lot of info on these swaps. mine was done at his old shop.Originally posted by HollandThere should be a restraining order to keep kids 100 feet from that car at all times. Plus execution on the sight to anyone who places a shopping cart within 200 feet of the thing.

yes, you can't use your m20 tranny like you could with most 24v swaps etc. and same goes with radiator, and engine mounts, and driveshaft. haha.
no overheating problems here either...no clutch fan and electrical fan is OFF at all times other than in stop and go and it stays at / below 1/2 mark.

I'm not big on paying for information that should be free. It always rubs me the wrong way. It's a motor swap - not plans to the international space station.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?

The m30 wiring is the easiest out of any engine for a swap. I used a m20 harness and only had to extend a few sensor wires.
Hell if I could figure out the wiring anybody could. If you can wire in a stereo deck it will be a breeze. (if you want to know how bad I am at wiring just ask Luke)m106 1990 e30

hmm the more and more i look at the m30 swap the less i wanna do it. i dont like the fact that you cant use a zf or 260 trans and it just seems like more of a hassle for a motor that isnt even 24v. dont get me wrong i know the m30 motor is a god of a motor it just doesnt seem worth it to me.
also i read somewhere that you can take a b34 crank and put it into a b35 and it pretty much makes the stroke longer and making the size of the motor a 3.8L does anybody have info on this? thanks
