    Power steering (might ditch it)

Hey guys. So when I bought my car recently i knew it had a PS leak. The power steering hasnt been working the majority of the time I have owned the car. I have been fine without it. So I bought some ATF fluid filled up the reservoir and it was working fine. It began to LEAK LIKE CRAZY.
I decided I dont really need it. How much does it weigh? should I fix it or just ditch it?
I dont mind getting rid of it.
Also I am a noob so I need help getting rid of it. How hard is it?
Do I just unbolt the mounts for the PS and buy one of these?

    thanks

Yes. You can even cut the belt if you want to be the ultimate slacker.

OP: what motor is in your car? if its an M30 for example, you may want PS. But I ditched mine, and I'm never going back!!

First of all, you don't need a machined delete block. just drain the rack and plug the holes like I did in my thread below.

          here's my thread, take a look: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=162329

You want to have a loop in the PS lines coming out of the rack, you can either loop a hose or use a block with passages in it.

To see if you can live with it, just take the belt off for a while, it'll leak a lot less and you can decide if you want to fix it or toss it.

I would first determine what is leaking. If it is a just a hose, that is a simple cheap fix. If it is the rack itself, that is another story.

And draining the rack and running it dry seems like a really bad idea. Just because you aren't pushing fluid through it doesn't mean it doesn't need lubrication. All the people I've heard that have ditched the power part have just topped the rack off and plugged the two holes or looped a line across them.

I have an M20. I havent had power steering the whole time ive owned the car with no fluid. No noise or problems. The belt should be on because it worked when i put fluid in. I have no idea whats leaking.
