Transmission Question

My 1984 318i is putting out about 220hp at the wheels. I bought it a few months ago and have barely driven it, but was told by the previous owner that its the turbo has been on 12psi for the past 40,000 kilometres. Could a stock 318 transmission handle that? The one in the car now is painted black and looks newer, I'm really just wondering if I should be concerned. Thanks.

Well, how does it shift etc? It can handle more than stock hp/tq, it depends more on how the power is delivered or how you drive/how sticky your tires are (which all in the ends puts more load on the drivetrain).

Wow, a boosted M10 at 12psi can push over 200hp? Is it at the wheels?

m10's are archaic little monsters when you throw boost at them.

your transmission should be fine, but if you want that peace of mind, im sure you could find a g265 or a trans from an m30 car and it should bolt up.

is a g265 transmission a lot stronger?

and yes theres over 200 at the wheels. its crazy fast. thats why im worried

Well, if it's working fine and shifts fine why worry about it? Buy a spare when you find a good one and sit on it. Of course G260/6 or 265 are stronger than the small g240, as they came with big 6 engines and s14 and both had almost/double the hp/tq vs the stock m10 that the g240 was meant for.
