Since this place has no shortage of opinions, I figure I'll ask for some. What I have: a bone stock Zinno 88 325is with around 160k on it (ODO stopped at 143k, shocking I know). Overall the car is in great shape, all maintenance up to date, VIN matching and rust free, but the interior needs some work. I already have a new dash, but the drivers seat is showing foam and the carpet has some stains from the PO. What I also have: a complete OBD-I swapped S52, as well as most of the rest of a 95 M3.
Now, when my e36 was wrecked I picked up the e30 because I'm a fanboy (thanks Julien), and also needed some cheap/reliable/fun transportation until my insurance claim was settled. The two colors I didn't want were red and bronzit, but all of the e30's I looked at were clapped out until I found this one locally. Due to condition and time constraints I jumped on it.
Now, I fully intend on building a swapped e30 for street and some track use. Because I'm anal retentive about doing it right the first time I want a solid base. My options at this point:
1. Build the e30 I already have. Red definitely isn't my first choice of color (second to last actually), but I already have the car, and it's solid. From a purist standpoint I don't really want to hack up a clean, stock, relatively low mileage 325is. They're getting harder to find, especially in stock form, but I already have it. I've been trolling the classifieds here and elsewhere for a while now, but finding shells that don't need serious reconditioning of the paint and/or body are few and far between. I'd rather not shell out the money for a quality paint job unless absolutely necessary.
2. Once I get a new daily, sell my current car and keep hunting for another swap candidate. Pretty self explanatory.
3. Specifically try to find an e30 M3 roller in decent shape for the swap, or a full one in shitty shape with the intention to swap. Maybe one with an S14 in need of a rebuild that someone doesn't want to shell out the money to have done.
4. Say F the swap, sell the S52, and just try to find an e30 M3 in decent shape.
I have a decent budget for this, but 3 and 4 might stretch it farther than I really want to commit to right now. If I were to find a really good deal somewhere then I'd be more willing to take that route. TIA.
