    My valentines gift

My gf bought me this muffler for valentines day. Its a magnaflow 14830. How much should i expect to pay to have it installed on my 87 325is?

      Alot more then $80.

It a single inlet... a large single inlet at that.

You are going to need a y pipe and some step up adapters to fit it.

lots of welding and custom work to make that fit.

Not worth it IMO. Particularly since you have to step down from dual pipes, into a single pipe, then back into 2.

It was $120 to get mien installed with new single pipe since most of my pipe was rusted out from y-piping it into a cat that the feds put there.

I was scared when i saw the single inlet. Im going to take it to a local shop and see what they say, but if its alot i'll just return it. i just looked for a dual in/out magnaflow but wasn't able to find any. Anyone know of any magnaflow or similar mufflers with dual in/out that would be easier to install on my car?

My experence is that mufflers shops prices vary greatly.

I once took my e21 to a shop to fix a cracked 2-into-1 downpipe - the guys spent an good 40 mins working on it, and charger me $30. He siad it might only last a few weeks (it never broke again even after years of abuse)

When I went to get my m30 downpipes fitted into my m20 exhaust(untill I can afford fulll custom setup) the guy rapped me for $150 for what should have taken him 20 mins (a$$ hole)

                ...Just FYI....

                      I paid $70 at Meineke.

As far as power loss, etc with the Y twin to single pipe...it wasn't the least bit noticeable, and the sound is worth it to me.

Looks good, sounds great and it's stainless...all I wanted, wasn't expecting to make any hp off it.

BTW, would recommend using a resonator if you don't want it to be really loud.

you need to find some independant dude unlike midas or a chain. a good welder can fab a y pipe in 1/2 hour. my exhaust guy, altho a friend, did mine on a similar magnaflow 3" in 3" out and charged me 1/2 hour on the y pipe. he tries to give me deals but this wasnt one of them.
that said, if returning it would be easy in the end it may be cheaper as magnaflow makes many configurations that will mate up more easily.

I have a dual in single out magnaflow if you want it....I just took it off because although it sounded great it was just too noisy, and I was beginning to think my car was irritating the neighbors.
It woke everyone up whenever I came home late...namely my mother.
