    Crunching the numbers

How much have you guys spent on your car? Do you have a list of all parts installed (insurance purposes)? Heres a section of 'parts' in my e30 (excluding my current project list of suspension components + rims + plastic bumpers), so far I'm at $3,833.51....how have you guys faired with this addiction?

I choose not to think about it, I just enjoy it every time I rip through a corner.

I really don't want to know how much I've put into turning my shitbox into a slightly less shitty, slightly less slow shitbox.

i dont usually, but ive been keeping a tally of the costs of my conversion because a guy i know (up himself twat also done the same conversion) is insistant it cant be done for less than 5k so im prooving him wrong

If i kept count right from when i brought the car, i would not be surprised to hear that i could have brought an E30 M3 instead. :S

I've only had my car since January and I've been driving it for about a week... I've probably spent $450

i hve honestly made it a point to throw away all reciepts over the years. cause i don't want to even imagine that I could probably be sitting in a new M3 with all the money gone on all of the various project cars over the years.

but I do know the wheels and tires on my car are way up there.

Since purchasing my E30 in late February, I have every receipt for every part and tool I have purchased while refreshing/maintaining it, and have documented all my purchases from part-outs and trips to the yard. Putting all that data into a spreadsheet is on the to-do list right after it gets painted so I can brag about how little I've spent for such a great car.

Don't even want to throw a number out there without actually knowing FOR SURE how much i've spent on it since I bought it March 5th, 2010.

I kept track of all the restoration and S52 swap stuff over the past year and a half and its somewhere in the 15k range, this doesnt include the 5k 7 years ago for the car and the other years of parts and maintainence. I would say somewhere in the 23-25k range. Oh well I still love her, spending 1k this week on Alpina wheel refinishing and Alpina airdam paint. Ugh my CC hates me

I say either you have a car that is a "good value" that continues to depreciate or you have a car that continues to appreciate and has "soul"....Hmmmmm....you figure it out.

I will say though, I see a TON of money that could have been spent more carefully on that spreadsheet.

Alright so the consensus is out of sight- out of mind. I gotta admin that its a lil disheartening to see how much I've spent, but I'm in this one for the long haul.
