    Airline tickets/Cheaptickets...help needed

Ashlee and I bought tickets via Cheaptickets.com to London on may 11....a round trip that would have us flying back the first of June...WELL

My Dad just found out he has enough airline miles to fly us there for free, and offered to give them to us if we can figure out a way to cancel these flight plans...

problem is..apparently its nonrefundable...which sucks, because its 2 months away and i cant do anything about it!!

so...what should i do....im entertaining the thought of selling the tickets for cheap...because even if i get SOMETHING out of them it would be better than nothing

    Any help??

They're not refundable, but can you change the days of travel?

I would bet they are not transferable to anyone else, though.

If your dad is not going to use the miles anytime soon, just wait and use his miles the next trip you take.

i even called and gave a sob story about how my fiance, ashlee, is pregnant, and this trip would be too much financial strain and we really need to cancel the arrangments for a refund.

          they were terrible unsympathetic

          bastards!

note: ashlee is neither pregnant nor my fiance.

Internet tickets, always a bad idea of you want flexibility.

The ONLY thing you can do with those tickets, and I am willing to stake my life on it...literally, is change the date of travel to a later date. Depending on what airline you used, domestic vs internationally flagged, you could change your city pairs... IE If you are flying united, you could cancel the tickets from cheap tickets, hang on to them for travel at a later date, anywhere United flys, for a reissue fee. Maybe 100 or 150usd no-a-days? (per ticket)

Tickets are ALWAYS non-transferable. So don't even think about selling them. Even the really expensive, full Y fare tickets, are technically non-transferable.

I wouldn't do ANYTHING with your current tickets you have until you know FOR SURE that the airline has reward seats available, they might not, for you AND your party on the days you are trying to go. If they do, book the reservation, but have them hold it. Do not have them pull the miles from the account. (to "pay" for the reward tickets) Then, and only then, work on how you can get the best bang for your buck out of the other tickets you have already purchased.

The tickets you are currently holding are only valid for 2 years max. If you cancel the current trip, and go with the reward trip, you will have a MAX two years to call up that airline and travel somewhere else. What you will essentially have is, a CREDIT toward future travel, on that specific airline, or one of their partners. So whatever you paid, per ticket, for your flights MINUS any change fee, is what you are left with as a credit.

You paid 400 per person...on united (800 ttl)
            You cancel tickets...
9 months later, you decide to travel to Vegas...350 per person
You have a 150 change fee on each ticket

take away change fee (150) from original fare (400) and you are left with 250 per ticket...

You would owe the airlines 100 bucks per person to travel to Vegas.

even in reissue, TICKETS ARE NON TRANSFERABLE... who ever is going with you on this trip, would have to be the same person going with you to "Vegas"

Hope that helps!! If you have any other questions, post away! I will be happy to answer!

They wouldn't give you a refund if you said a family member died and need to change your plans and offered to show them the death certificate (that is required documentation on bereavement fairs, by the way). They MIGHT offer to cancel the tickets and wave the reissue fee once you decide to travel again.

Whatever you do, don't call them back and try another story out on them. They have already advised you no, on your first story, and a VERY bad one at that!! (you should have talked to me first!!) If the agent was doing their job, that advisement, and the story you gave them went into your reservation so they can keep track of the things you tell them.

What about you keep those tickets and your Dad uses his miles to buy someone else a ticket and they pay you part of the cost?

"Rewards may not be sold, bartered or purchased."

I worked the International Elite Desk at Continental for over 2 years and was a travel agent for another. Every airline I have run across has this policy in place.

What they don't know, won't hurt them, but you better be damn sure no one spills the beans to the Airlines...it could result in serious loss of funds, and reward miles.
