    E30 Alpina B6?

This car has been sitting for nearly 10 years needing a crank sensor. It cranks but does not start. I am trying to buy the car off the owner but he doesn't seem to want to get rid of it.

It looks like a 2.8L but I'm not sure on the year. here are a few pictures of it. What do you guys think its worth? What should I offer him for it? From the looks of the odometer it has 33k original miles.

WOW!!! Tell him to name his price and buy it! Start at 1K and see what he will take. If thats all it needs its prolly a +7-8K car.

    Ill say it again...WOW!!!

I would run the VIN to see what options the car came with.

My B6 had the same problem, take the sensor off its mounting and swipe a wrench across it while someone cranks it over to see if that maks any difference. I ended up just swaping a U.S. E28 535i loom and brain to get it running, the sensor is NLA from ALPINA.

btw, what year is it? Check the cylinder head for a casting as Alpina and Hartge stamped their heads. Should be between cylinders 4-5 on the intake side.

Also looks like it has a dog-leg close ratio 5-speed. The seats and digital gauge are worth $$ too. I wouldn't blame the owner for wanting to keep it.

Another note is by the looks of the engine wiring the injection system looks like Motronic 1.0 (adaptive or basic, not sure which one) due to the multiple temp sensors on the thermo housing & diagnostic port. That would indicate the car has reference sensors in the bellhousing and not a crank sensor by the harmonic balancer.

              HTH.

did not know this, very interesting. So Alpina used a crank position sensor on the harmonic balancer like on Motronic 1.1/1.3 B35s?

Back off Ben! You know I will hunt you down if you ended up getting it. haha. OP If the car was in real nice condition it would probably be a 15-20K car, but thats pretty clean and original. As Ben said seats are origal and $$$, additional cluster in vent$$ Wheels, suspension, airdam and of course engine are all $$$$ items so offer what you can and worst case sell all the parts to me.

You have never gotten a good look at a real Alpina, have you? You would part YOUR car to make this one healthy, trust me.

That would be like an epic purchase if you can convince him to sell. GL
