Last week I took the "new to me" E30, and the wife, on a little trip. A vacation, if you will, for my wife's birthday. She used to go to Sanibel, FL for vacation with her family when she was younger, so we decided to head there. Along the way, we decided to hit Nashville and Deals Gap (aka, The Dragon). Unfortunately, The Gap was closed do to the landslide, so I improvised and hit some other fun roads in the area. On the way back we decided to stop by Panama City, and maybe Memphis. Ended up skipping Memphis to make the last day of driving a bit shorter, and stayed in Jonesboro, AR.
Here is a google map of the trip.
So basically, 3500 miles. All of this in the 318is I picked up in November. BTW, the car, when purchaced, had 242,000 miles on it. The car performed great! It was comfortable, and ran like a top. Got 27-30 mpg, depending on speeds, as well. I won't lie, I did do a fair amount of work on the car. Mostly underneath and the interior, though. Only thing I did motor wise was a COP kit, new lower oil pan, and change the oil. Here is a link to its "build": http://r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=153765 My only two regrets are not getting my new wheel and tire setup in time (I was getting the wheels refinished, and they weren't done by the time I left), and the AC not working yet. But the AC was only really needed a couple of times. And even then, it wasn't that bad without it.
Here is the only real pic of the car I took on the trip. This was taken on Route 165 in the Cherokee National Forest. Some fun roads there, and on 68, heading south into GA.

Observations:
Man, all ya'll in the south have some smooooth ass roads. Was GREAT! Or I should say, TN, GA, and FL, have great, smooth, roads. Except in Memphis. Those sucked, lol.
Nashville was a blast. Please, if you live in that area, frequent your local bars that have live music. You won't know what you have until its gone! I would kill for a music scene like that, or Austin Texas, here in Omaha. If you stay at the Days Inn, by the stadium, have Mildred make you some waffles. That's all she does, but she hums some good gospel while she does it. But, to a man, I would avoid that hotel. The beds sucked.
Driving through GA was a blast, as NO ONE does anything remotely close to the speed limit. Don't think I dropped below 80 mph ever. Pretty sure I was doing 85 through all of Atlanta, LOL.
Sanibel is great this time of year, if not a little crowded. LOTS of money down there, but not so much so that a regular joe feels out of place.
Northern Arkansas has some great roads, too. I had been through Eureka Springs, down into Hot Springs before, so I knew about those. But even north of Jonesboro the roads were entertaining.
A few pics:
Cool place in southern TN, northern GA. Lots of old, cool signage. All for sale, of course.

Pretty small Junior College, if you ask me! (I know its just a pumping station, but as you drive by, its kinda funny.)

There were a TON of stingrays out the morning after we got to Sanibel. Still can't believe I actually got this pic.

We stayed in the one on the left.

This was the name of our building. Every time I saw it, I couldn't get the theme song to Sponge Bob out of my head. LOL.

Sunset, Sanibel.

Sunset, from our room, Panama City.

I pinch you!

Cool story, bro?
