Uhaul car trailer

Anyone ever rent one? Experiences? tips?

I heard the trailers themselves were pretty heavy, I have an '04 F150 4x4. Its the shortbed which sucks but shouldn't make that much of a difference because I am only towing an Accord, all 4 wheels off the ground. Also don't have a trailer brake controller.

Call U-haul about the weight. I've used them several times. Both full and dolly. Tighten down the straps, and then drive around the block - you'll be amazed at how much slack you'll then need to take up again. Stop a few times at the start of your trip to check them. Remember, if that car get's loose and kills someone, you're still responsible.

Back wheels not roll on the accord? If they do Id suggest just renting a car dolly, normally cheaper and I know the uhaul by me has them. Just a suggestion

my old roommate towed his 911 sc back to Charleston SC whit a 95 F-150 loaded with all his stuff with no issues. they ARE really heavy though.

MAKE SURE they tell you what uhaul you are going to pick it up from though. they shuffle them around and you sontime have to pick them up across town. that can make it a pian in the ass.

10 dollar difference so I'd rather have the whole car up. We already reserved one.


Do they come with the straps George? The pictures I've seen online has the straps that wrap the entire front wheel and then straps down. If they come with them I will use those and then chock the wheels and add another strap going across the trailer and through the rear wheels cinching them down. I will check it often, I am always paranoid about those things.

They come with straps. Remember the car is still going to be moving up and down on the trailer - so I'm not sure if body to trailer straps are best. I think just trailer to wheel.

Ok here you go

You have a full size truck and dragging a light car you will be fine on the hook up (I would think) The straps go over the front wheels and the wheels are in a cradle, and ratchet down tight. I like to throw a ratchet strap on the rear "axle" (e30 diff carrier) and tie it off to the wagon just for peace of mind. Dont use Chalks as they can shake lose and fall off (open center NOT a full deck trailer)

You dont need a Brake controller they have fucking surge brakes on them (had too many issues with surge over the years I hate surge), Be slow and deliberate when backing up, or you will lock up the wagon brakes. when you slow down you will feel a bit of a thud as the tongue slide's on itself to apply the wagon brakes and then when you com to a stop the big springs put the tongue back apart to release them and there will be a slight thud again.

Yes they are HEAVY for what they are, but I had the little woman Drag my lowered e30 ( you wont have clearance issues) across the country with the Tahoe on one of these things, with all most NO towing experience other than right seat with me or her pops. (I had the big Horse wagon on my truck) She did just fine you will too.

The biggest thing is what you have for you light connector its a standard 4 pin boat trailer. I cant remember but am fairly sure your truck has a standard RV 7 pin plug. You will need the adapter thats about it. Oh and make sure the monkey that hooks you up at Uhaul dose it right.

I just towed my e30 from NY to Northern VT w/ one.(5.5hrs) I used a 03 Chevy 1500 4x4... Braking was weird w/ their surge brakes (that mrsleeve mentioned) but besized that, it was an easy trip.

Straping it down is very straight forward. As for the 7round to 4flat adapter, I bought one for $9 at a local autoparts store; Uhaul offers one for like $15 on their website.

just towed an e30 on a uhaul trailer w/ my 06 f-150 4.2v6, and it worked just fine. They give you everything you need at the rental place + directions. Have fun and be careful.

man i am glad we have car trailers at work. i fucking hate uhaul.
