CHECK CRAIGSLIST! i see decent E30's around my neck of the woods (maybe a 2-3 hr drive from you) for around 2k all the time. and im sure you could get em down to like 1500.
so ya.. craigslist.org. check it!
EDIT: hate to say it, but you may wanna check out this E36.... i mean, its no E30, but to get around town, they are fun

1991 318is, just turned 206K miles, sterling silver on black leather, runs VERY strong, body has some rust on the rear quarter panel, interior is PERFECT. Oil change, new spark plugs, chain tensioner, brembo blanks and hawk hps pads 700 miles ago, new sway bar end links 200 miles ago.... make me an offer that I cant refuse :)Comment

Its not bad at all... its actually pretty good by E30 standards. I am just not used to having such a cheap car, so i consider it a beater.Comment

Well, I'll keep you posted. I'm trying to give this car back to the seller or find another buyer hopefull this weekend. I'd prefer a 4 door, but a 2dr is is a decent place to start I suppose.

This is hilarious. I just noticed these "just say no to bronzit" smiles. I feel like those were invented just for me.
