Advice for a newbie? Found a nice e30 at a used car lot

-could be thermostat or water pump, $200 if simple fix. IF.
-suspension = ~$800 for parts alone
-alignment probably fixed when you replace suspension
-rattle could be lots of different things.
-muffler, so what.
-Don't need power steering anyway, but yeah the groaning is bad.
-pretty damn easy to replace brake pads, and cheap too
-fuel gauge, dunno bout that
-brake lining light is dumb anyway, it's just an electrical contact that goes haywire

I JUST did the suspension myself, so i know that part is correct.

Fuck that. Even 1700 is too high for something with all that wrong. I just paid 1800 for my iX, perfect paint, few dents, and bad VC.

CHECK CRAIGSLIST! i see decent E30's around my neck of the woods (maybe a 2-3 hr drive from you) for around 2k all the time. and im sure you could get em down to like 1500.

1991 318is, just turned 206K miles, sterling silver on black leather, runs VERY strong, body has some rust on the rear quarter panel, interior is PERFECT. Oil change, new spark plugs, chain tensioner, brembo blanks and hawk hps pads 700 miles ago, new sway bar end links 200 miles ago.... make me an offer that I cant refuse :)

Its not bad at all... its actually pretty good by E30 standards. I am just not used to having such a cheap car, so i consider it a beater.
