Yea. I've owed m10 cars. You missed it - women describe cars like that when you ask them about it. Apparently you haven't ever head a women! ;)

Higher mileage e46 probably isn't a great choice.

At 17 I would have put it into my car, no doubt. Now, with a couple years of college done knowing how tight money can get it would be a lot harder for me to feel good about dropping 3k on a 3k car. (partly because I just did that (almost) and it feels like it would have been smarter to save the money for needs)

Yeah. A nicely done E46 will drop more panties than any E30 i've seen.

Your 17. Dumb chicks who give it up easy like newer cars. I'd go for the car with the built in magnet. But keep the e30 for the joy of driving.

              Keep the e30.

Newer cars will come as you get older, the fun and thrill of having a car only you appreciate and learn to repair is priceless.

I have had an e38, e39, and a dodge viper for a short period of time.

I liked those cars, but I love my e30 because I see it progress from what it was when I first got it.

The experience is worth having, e46s are cool and all but at the end of the day fixing an e46 won't make you feel half as good as fixing an e30.

Really though, get a new car, keep the BMW. Having a second car is handy, and further impresses the chicks.
Unless you can unload the bmw for more than a few grand, and you aren't that attatched to it.

Personally i'd argue for a newER car, something from the last five years with a good reliability record (subaru, honda, toyo..wait nvm, lincoln, etc)
since insurance will be cheaper and so will the sticker price. Oh and repairs too.
If you're getting a car with a loan, then go brand fucking new. You get the warranty then which you will most likely use at some point even if it's something trivial.

i had to make the same decision with my e30, keep it, or sell it for something new. i chose to keep it because i love my car, im very attached to it, and i dont plan on ever selling it. if your into your e30 alot, then keep it, if its just a car to you, get a newer one.

If you turn and look at your car everytime you get out of it then go for it, like stated before if it's just a car to you then get the e46...

I say fix up the E30. but I have been driving E30's for 10 yrs now. Just make it look nice. So some Wheels, a drop, and buff out the paint.

Yeah, it just eats up the polish. I might chalkboard paint the entire hood. I did the hood and it turned out pretty good. I think I'm gonna stick with the e30 simply because I won't have money for e46 maintenance after I buy it.

If I had an E30 and a bit of money, wanted a reliable project car and had some skills, I would buy another E30. Put a bone stock, freshly rebuilt or very low mile M50B25 in it.

That with the G260 and a 3.73LSD is plenty quick. Supposedly gets pretty good mileage, too.

Add some decent suspension, a small but burly stereo, tint the windows and buy an alarm. Nice clean little car to take you through the next few years without spending tons of dough.

Start off with fresh Control arms, CA bushings, subframe bushings, trailing arm bushing, do the adjustable subframe mod, fresh TA bushings

Drive the one you have now, as is, while you build the other one. If you keep the build "sane", you should be able to make a decent looking, great driving car for about $8500.

That hard part is truly sticking to your budget, and being patient.

My budget would be around $5000 when all is said and done. I was thinking about an
M50 swap, but I don't know exactly how much of the budget that'll take up.

I bet it could be done. Motors can be as little as $300 or as much as $2500.

That is where the patience comes in!
