    New member : Hello :) 1st question.

    Hello :)

I've recently discovered this great forum, I'm really pleased to talk in English (I don't speak German) with E30 fanatics :)

My daily driver is a 318is (07/1990), a Diamantschwartz one.

    I have a question.

If I'm right, evey 318i (and is) with plastic bumpers sold over the US were equiped with the M42 engine (in Europe, there were the M40 8v for the 318i and M42 16v for the 318is). In Europe, there is no cruise control option for the 318is. I'm pretty sure you have one in the US, no? If yes, I'd love to know the parts I need to buy!

    Thx a lot,

    Thomas Olivaux

Find Ken Copperwheat. He had some parts he was selling.

No 318i/iS/iC (M40/M42) has cruise control, AFAIK. It may have been an option in some countries but not in the U.S. You can fit it using 325 cruise components, though I do not know what parts are necessary.

        Thx for your quick answers.

So there are no cruise control equipment, even in the US :(

I know that the 318is E36 has this option, so I could take the engin parts from the E36 M42... but what about the electronic?

        See U,

Are you sure Stu, I could have sworn my friends 91 318is had it

Welcome man! Some of the parts will not work from the 325i cruise control system to the 318is. I tried doing the swap last week. You might have to mix/match the e36 318 and e30 325i system. Not sure though, I'll be doing some research here soon,

I've never seen one with it and am pretty sure it was not on the minimalist options list for the late model 318's. Early 318's (M10's) were avail with cruise though.

                If I'm right, in Europe, 318i M10 and, I think M40 had this option. Only 318is M42 didn't...
